captured memories of a motion picture photographer

A film crew is a group of people which works on the production aspect of a film. Film crews are differentiated from actors in that they support the production of a piece without actually appearing on screen (except by accident), and the members of the crew are also separate from the producers, who handle the intellectual property and distribution aspects of production. There are a number of positions on a film crew, ranging from the prestigious roles to scout work, and a good film crew is key to producing a high quality film, commercial, television show, or any other sort of filmed piece. These are my photos of my film crew and the cast I worked with for over 40 years in the film industry.

Like my father, I became a cinematographer, and through the '60s, '70s, ’80, ’90, I was considered one of the best lighting directors “Gaffer” in the UK and the US. I was especially noted for my outdoor photography. I got started as a camera assistant  a “focuspuller” and then a cameraman, a motion picture photographer.

As it is getting close to my retirement I now hope to enjoy my photography without regard to chalked outlines! I now have a studio is on the outskirts of Greenwich Village in New York. The studio is a corner of the mid-19th-century warehouse-cum-stable 'on Charles Street. My first job, of work will be to go through the vast amount film/slides/sheet film that I have and try to put them into some order.

All my work was been taken over a span of years with conventional film cameras in black and white and colour. Many of the shots that were taken on black and white film I have copied the negatives with a digital camera, inverted the tones in Photoshop and produced positive, black and white images. This also goes from some of my colour slides. If you scroll through the image you will find a narrative regarding the subject. Please post any comments you may have on the title page I would love to hear from you.
